It was once the old capital of Kullu. It is situated on the left side of the river Vyas, it was built by King Vishuddha Pal. There is a very ancient fort here which has now been converted into a hotel. This is the only wonderful example of the architectural style of the Western Himalayas. Bijli Mahadev Temple is situated at a height of 2460 meters above sea level on the top of the hill in Kullu, at a distance of about 60 kms from Manali. Cars and buses go only till the village of Mathan, you will have to walk about 1.5 kilometers on top of that. The flight via Delhi, Chandigarh, Shimla and Leh will take you to Bhuntar airport and from there you can reach Kullu Manali via road. By Rail: Due to being located in the distant mountains, no railway station has yet been built in Kullu Manali. The nearest railway stations are Jogindernagar and Pathankot. Pathankot is situated at a distance of 285 kms from Kullu and Jogindernagar 126 kms. Apart from this, Shimla and Kalkaji railway stations are also available for the convenience of tourists. After reaching there, further you can reach Kullu Manali via road. By Road : If you want to visit Manali via road then this is a very interesting way. A large number of tourists come to this place only by road. This is a very easy route. There is a facility of many Volvo buses connecting Ambala, Chandigarh, Shimla, Dalhousie to Kullu Manali. Himachal Pradesh State Transport Corporation buses regularly connect manali with other cities.
